New Student Checklist: Freshmen

The transition from high school to college will be smoother if you make thoughtful and timely decisions about housing, orientation, and other programs. This checklist will guide you through the process.

Step 1: Accept admission, apply for honors and housing [March-April]

Step 2: Plan for New Student Orientation, supply needed information [May-July]

Action/Event Deadline
Report changes in your high school academic record or mailing address
as needed, before the end of your last pre-UCLA class
Request your I-20 to obtain your student visa [international students only, F-1 and J-1 visas] after you accept your offer of admission
Complete your Pre-Orientation Planner survey [required to sign up for New Student Orientation] before May 8, 2017
Sign up for New Student Orientation - signups begin: May 8, 2017
Take the Analytical Writing Placement Examination May 13, 2017
Take the online Math Diagnostic Test June 30, 2017
Apply for your BruinCard two weeks before you attend Orientation
Send us official high school transcripts and test scores July 1, 2017
Consider enrolling in the College Summer Institute July 1, 2017
Apply for parking July 21, 2017

Step 3: Attend New Student Orientation, enroll in classes [July-September]
