Health Insurance

All students are required to be enrolled in a qualified health insurance plan in order to register at UCLA. Undergraduates who do not have a qualifying plan are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP).

The cost of coverage through UC SHIP will be included as part of your Student Services Fees. You will receive more information about UC SHIP with your first BruinBill.

If you already have health insurance, check if your current plan meets the university requirements by visiting the student health insurance website. If your plan does meet the requirements, then you can complete an online waiver so that you will not be enrolled in UC SHIP. You must complete the online waiver during the fall, winter, or spring terms before the payment deadline date of each term. A UC SHIP waiver must be completed every academic year.  If you have questions, please contact us at (310) 825-4073, option #4.

*If the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date is the last business day prior to the 20th. Payment must be made by 5:00 PM online or by 4PM if made in-person at the Payment Solutions & Compliance office in Murphy Hall room 1125.

Note: If you waive UC SHIP, but then lose your private or group insurance in the midst of a term, you can purchase UC SHIP at the full cost for the term. The UC SHIP insurance premium fee is not prorated. An official Letter of Termination from your previous insurance company must be submitted to the Ashe Center Insurance Office to initiate the manual UC SHIP enrollment process. The coverage is effective the day after the date of purchase, or the day enrollment is posted on your BruinBill.
